Admired by King Alfonso XIII, the magnificent and impressive landscape offers landmarks like Desfiladero de los Gaitanes, a limestone gorge, just 10 metres wide on some spots and around 700 metres deep, carved by the Guadalhorce River. It was dammed in 1921, forming 3 reservoirs flanked by pine forests. The area is most famous as being one of the best rock climbing areas in Europe, but is also very popular for mountain biking, hiking, and camping, and where you can spot eagles, Royal vultures, Spanish ibex and other endangered species. The gorge, the Arab ruins of Bobastro and Ardales cave are just a walk away from the hotel.

By Car: From Málaga: - Take the A7 motorway towards Almería until the exit Universidad-Cártama, getting onto the road towards Campillos. - Continue on this road until you reach the village of Ardales. - At the crossing you will see on your right the detour to Embalses. - This picturesque road takes you directly to El Chorro, where you can clearly see the hotel on top of a hill. From Seville: - On Roda de Andalucía (A92) motorway take the detour towards Campillos. - Once in Campillos continue onto the road towards Ronda/Ardales. - After a few kilometres you will find on your left the detour to Embalses. - Crossing each of the reservoirs on the area follow signs to El Chorro. From Granada and Córdoba: - Once you reach Antequera, follow the signs to Campillos. - From there follow the instructions as indicated above from Seville.

Quick description

An old flour factory dating from the year 1827 was totally reformed in order to offer the visitor all the amenities and comfort of a modern hotel. The cosy rooms, mixing in their decoration traditional elements with minute details of design, all have a small living area and views of the natural surroundings of the “Desfiladero de los Gaitanes” – a beautiful gorge. Some of the rooms have two floors, making use of the enormous interior height of the old building.

Situated 40 km from Málaga, the Durán is a 35-minute drive from the beaches of the Costa del Sol. Free public parking is available near the guest house.

Internet access is provided free of charge via the hotel's computer in the TV/ games room. The TV/ games room has a wide screen TV with surround sound and guests can borrow multi language DVDs from our library at no additional cost. We have a large swimming pool (11.5 metres by 7 meters), with mountain views and Gretha surrounding. We provide free local guides helping you discover places like Ronda, Antequera, Ardales Lakes, El Torcal, Nerja, Malaga, Marbella, etc., with detailed maps, directions, places to visit and eat.

Room information

All our very spacious rooms are non-smoking, with an en suite bathroom, tea/coffee making facilities and air conditioning (and heating in winter). Each also has its own private terrace with spectacular views.

Food & beverage

Breakfast: Our room rates include breakfast and we aim to give you the perfect start to your day with a choice of cereals, yoghurts, fresh fruit juice, local meats, fruit salad (or melons when in season), accompanied by home-made and sliced bread. If this is not enough, you can always have a traditional English cooked breakfast as well. Lunch: Lunch is available each day except Sunday and includes freshly prepared salads, sandwiches, baguettes and various local dishes. Dinner: We offer set meals including Spanish Nights on Fridays, in a 'Dinner Party' format with all-inclusive prices for pre-dinner drinks, starter (Tapas on Spanish Nights), main course, dessert, still water and tea/coffee. On Sundays our kitchen closes after breakfast but there are many good local restaurants available to guests.

Travel information

By Car from Malaga Airport: - Take the N340 towards Malaga. - Take the 2nd exit for Antequera/Motril (A45/A7). - Join the A7 motorway and take the 2nd exit signposted A357 Campanillas/Cartama/Universidad/Malaga, but take care as you should only follow the signs to Cartama/Universidad/A357. - Continue on this motorway until it becomes an ordinary road and at the 41 km marker take the exit for Alora (A343). - At the T-junction turn right towards Alora/Pizarra and after 300 metres take the left turn for Alora. - Continue on this road for 9 km keeping Alora and the castle on your left (do not turn towards Alora town centre). - At the T-Junction turn left and follow the signs for Antequera (you are now on the A343). - Continue on this road until the 36 km marker and then go over a bridge (Armco on both sides). - Take the 1st right into the Cortijo Valverde olive groves. - After 200 metres turn into the drive on your left for the Cortijo and continue up the hill taking the 2nd exit into our car park.
