Area information

The surrounding area offers a wide range of sports and leisure options in all seasons. In summer the 22 km² lake formed by the Batak Dam is ideal for swimming, water skiing and boat rides. This lake and several others in the vicinity are the biggest lakes in Bulgaria and offer ideal conditions for fishing. The fresh air, the shaded hiking trails, the cool climate and the well-signposted trails make the surrounding mountains a paradise for hikers. In winter there are perfect conditions for skiing (including night skiing) and motor sleigh rides from November to April. The highest point of the slope offers a beautiful panoramic view of the Batak Dam.

Travel information

From Sofia (147 km): Follow the motorway A1, road no. 37 Pazardzhik-Batak and road no. 376 Batak-Tsigov Chark. or the second route from Sofia (137 km): Follow the motorway A1, take right at the Velingrad/Tzerovo exit, pass through Septemvri, Varvara, Rakitovo and from the centre of Rakitovo follow the signs to Tsigov Chark. From Plovdiv (65 km): Follow road no. 375 Plovdiv-Pestera, then road no.37 Pestera-Batak and road no. 376 Batak-Tsigov Chark. From Pazardzhik (47 km): Follow road no. 37 Pazardzhik-Batak and road no. 376 Batak-Tsigov Chark. From Velingrad (24 km): Follow road no. 376 Velingrad-Rakitovo-Tsigov Chark.
